Successful STEM Education Initiative
On June 23rd, the National Research Council of the National Academies released a new report, Successful K-12 STEM Education: Identifying Effective Approaches in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The report, supported by NSF and requested by Congress, resulted from the work of an expert committee, a series of commissioned papers, and a review of research on STEM-focused schools, effective STEM practices, and effective schooling.
CADRE, the SMP-housed resource network for DR K-12 program, has been asked to organize a one-day fall event that will serve as a launch pad for this new report. CADRE will also design and conduct follow-up activities, including webcasts, webinars, and regional workshops. These activities will be supported by issue briefs on implementation of effective STEM education practices at the state, district, and school levels. Several DR K-12 PIs and co-PIs have served on the steering committee or as authors of commissioned papers. For more information, contact Barbara Berns or Catherine McCulloch.
