Field-Test Opportunities Available for Exciting New
Out-of-School Nature
Curriculum
Who: Out-of-School Program Leaders working with middle school youth
What: Field test a set of new trees/plants and ponds activities. and provide EDC with feedback on both the use of the activities and their accompanying website.
When: October/November 2009 through May 2010
Background: EDC's Center for Science Education has worked for two years to develop Exploring Tree and Ponds, a set of engaging new activities for the out-of-school context focusing on the phenomena of trees/plants and pond organisms. This project emphasizes the use of digital cameras and drawing as a means to promote in-depth inquiry. We are now ready to let the field try out these activities and give us feedback to help us enter the next phase of development.
This project emphasizes the early stages of inquiry, where youth explore and become better acquainted with the natural world.
The activities as well as descriptions about ways of implementing the activities and photo resource files are available via the Web.
In addition, a small amount of money may be available for the purchase of digital cameras, and an honorarium would also be given for detailed feedback on the use of the activities.
We hope you are as excited about this field test as we are!
