This article, first published in Education Week, argues that science may be the content area "left behind" by the federal “No Child Left Behind” Act of 2001 because of a "perilous trap" written into the massive piece of legislation. Some school districts, Ms. Sandler says, are already allowing science to wither or die because of the pressures to make quick progress on reading and math at the primary grades.
