The Center for Science, Math and Technology at Colorado State University offers courses for science teachers in grades 7–12. The current course, “Chemistry: The molecular explanation, with a focus on water,” provides a forum for online discussion about both the teaching of chemistry and the science of chemistry in secondary classrooms. Colorado State University is currently developing courses for teachers of biology and physics. |

National Teachers Enhancement Network (NTEN) Montana State University and NSTA |
Courses offered to K–8 teachers support teaching about botany, insects, electricity, motion, ecology, nutrition, soil science, and space science. They are taught in sections of 25 students or fewer. Courses are delivered online from Montana State University-Bozeman using conferencing software. Graduate credits are available from MSU-Bozeman. An NSF grant pays tuition of teachers who participate in course launches. |

The University of Wisconsin at Madison offers several online and field courses that are designed as professional development for science teachers. These include “Rainforests and Coral Reefs”, "Field Methods for Ecological Research" and “Trees of the Midwest”. |

The University of Virginia Physics Department offers graduate-level courses for middle and high school educators. Some physics courses are offered online and others are offered as a mix of formats. |

Courses from Indiana University are available through interactive videoconferencing, cable TV or public television, videotape, Internet, and independent study. Offered are graduate credit courses and continuing education courses for middle and high school teachers. Graduate programs are available in education. |
Science in Education TERC and Lesley University |
This online science education master's
degree program for elementary and middle school educators addresses
inquiry-based science pedagogy and Web-based information technologies
in daily practice. The 33-credit-hour program comprises an introductory
3-credit-hour course called “Try Science” and five 6-credit-hour
modules. Each module focuses on a particular science domain. Online
science courses for K–8 teachers, curriculum specialists, and
instructional resource persons are also available. Each course is
team taught by a scientist and an educator.

Teaching Evolution: Online Course for Teachers California State University Fullerton, PBS |
This course, developed to accompany the PBS television series “Evolution,” helps science teachers to examine major evolutionary concepts, explore teaching methodologies, and address obstacles to teaching evolution. In addition to reading assignments, participants complete eight interactive online sessions that cover content and strategies for dealing with controversy. California State University Fullerton has expanded the basic PBS course to include more rigorous content, and the course is offered for graduate credit. |
