| The Environmental Science Schools (ES2) project hopes to build a community of elementary schools in which science is a highly motivating experience for students and where the science program motivates students to read more, write more, and use mathematics. CSE is conducting the evaluation of this project, the goal of which is to investigate the following questions in Boston elementary schools: (1) To what extent, if any, does the understanding of science concepts of children who attend ES2 schools improve as a result of their schools’ participation in this initiative?; (2) To what extent, if any, do children who attend ES2 schools exhibit a growing awareness of and appreciation for the natural environment they encounter in their neighborhoods?; (3) To what extent, if any, do teachers alter their use of instructional time for science in response to the ES2 initiative? |
